We have never had paid staff and all work is performed by volunteers. All events are supported by generous donations enabling the Foundation to keep its cost down around 4%. Therefore, 96% of every dollar you contribute goes directly to cancer patients and their families.
Grant Recipients
Since its inception, the Paul R. Nardoni Foundation has provided funding to establish programs that will provide comfort and aid to cancer patients and their families.
Somerset Medical Center - "Paul's Place"
- The Paul R. Nardoni Oncology Pavilion is a 35-bed oncology wing for cancer patients and has flat screeen TVs, sleeper beds, Hawaii-themed pictures and internet connections. Each room has the theme "Carpe Diem" displayed on each wall.

Cancer Support Community (formerly The Wellness Community)
- The Cancer Support Community is a non-profit organization that provides free programs of support, education and hope to individuals affected by cancer. Our programs and services empower the patient and caregiver to take an active role in their recovery from cancer within a safe, supportive, home-like environment. All programs are free of charge. The Foundation donated funds for the creation of "Paul's Kitchen" that is used by the Cancer Support Community for cooking classes and sessions on healthy eating.

Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania “Carpe Diem” Program
- This program provides cancer patients and their families the opportunity to utilize Foundation funds to fulfill a wish or desire they would not ordinarily have the means to fund themselves. “Carpe Diem” helps to provide a wonderful patient experience during a very difficult time.
Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Special Needs Fund
– This fund, provides relief for everyday expenses incurred by cancer patients and their families who are facing financial hardship. Overnight stays in a nearby hotel, utility bills, medication, cab fare, meals or other basic necessities are some examples of expenses for which the fund provides assistance.
Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Art Oncology Program
– This program offers experiences that enrich the human spirit through art. The program services hundreds of patients and their loved ones. Funds from the foundation allow for the purchase of additional supplies, expanding the program to assist more patients.
Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Video and Music Library
– This program provides movie entertainment and music for patients and their families during a hospital stay or while receiving chemotherapy. To date, the foundation has supplied over 200 movie videos and portable radios to the inpatient and outpatient Oncology floors.
Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Bingo Night
– Oncology patients admitted to Rhoads 7 at HUP are, for the most part, in the hospital for long periods of time. Once a week there is “Bingo Night” on the floor. This evening gives patients a much-needed diversion and something to look forward to each week. The foundation totally funds this evening of bingo, pizza and prizes.
Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania General Needs Fund
- The foundation has provided 2 new computers for patient use, laptops with video phones for patients to communicate from their room with loved ones, new furniture for the inpatient sitting room on two oncology floors, DVD players and a DVD library, mini refrigerators for patient rooms and sleep chairs, so family members can spend the night in the patient’s room.
Somerset Medical Center Cancer Center Special Needs Fund
– The foundation initiated and funds this cancer center’s first special needs fund. This fund provides relief for everyday expenses incurred by cancer patients who are facing financial hardship. Help with utility bills, prosthetics, phone service and other basic necessities are provided.
Somerset Medical Center Cancer Center General Needs
– The foundation has provided a new computer and printer for patient use, new furniture for the inpatient sitting room, DVD players and a DVD library, CD players and a CD library and Aero beds, so family members can spend the night in the patient’s room.
Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center Art Oncology Program
- The foundation initiated and funds this cancer center’s first art therapy program (modeled after the University of Pennsylvania) for Oncology patients.
Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center Chefs, Chauffeurs, and Confidants Program
- This program provides an interactive workshop where participants (patients and families) provide mutual support and encouragement as they learn skills and techniques to sustain themselves and cope with cancer.
Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center General Needs
– The foundation supports a program to provide gift packs for skin and mouth care to patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation. We have provided terry robes for patients who are required to travel through the corridors in a public area of the facility to receive treatment. These robes provide warmth and comfort as well as privacy.
Hunterdon Hospice
– Because of their extraordinary efforts to provide comfort to patients and their families during a very difficult time, the foundation contributes funds to support this endeavor.
Holy Cross Cancer Center (Ft. Lauderdale, Fl.) Video Library
– This program provides movie entertainment for patients and their families while receiving chemotherapy. To date, the foundation has supplied over 30 movie videos to the outpatient Oncology floor of this hospital.
Creative Heartwork Tender Arts Program
– The funding for this program will provide supplies and equipment to offer “The Journey” workshop series for children and adolescent cancer patients and for the children of adult survivors of cancer. The series is intended to help children increase their capacities and coping with their overwhelming emotions.

The grant will be used for the Patient and Family Services Special Needs Fund, to refurnish the family lounge, to purchase laptops and sleep chairs. In addition to the donation, the PRN Foundation donated refrigerators, DVD players, DVD movies, and other gifts for use by the Cancer Center patients and their families.
